Our scholars are Neurodivergent and have ADHD, DYSLEXIA, may be ESOL, GIFTED, At-Risk of failing school work, and/or SEN-SEND students. “Having worked for 28 years as a native English speaking Bilingual Learning Specialist and Spanish teacher at public, independent and elite private schools focused on ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism and delayed language processing, I noted the need for many students to have the flexibility of attending school online.
There were a myriad of reasons. Some students were gifted, and were working towards overcoming physical or emotional health issues. Others were in professional sports or the arts, and many more had families that travelled widely. Unfortunately, quite a few students were embarrassed to attend a specialized school for dyslexia, regardless of how highly trained, dedicated and inimitable the teachers and administrators were, or how beautiful and exclusive the school campus.
Students also came from diverse, blended, divorced, HNW, and/or adopted backgrounds. Some scholars required greater compassion, intuition, and support due to constant test-taking trauma, traveling, the complexities and stress of life, and inflexible standardized educational systems.
And then there were those students who, while not being dyslexic, required a more holistic, innovative and fluid approach to learning - where the teacher was not tied to scope and sequence or textbook mandates that drove their courses - and their lives. They needed a dependable, dedicated off-site experienced teacher-tutor who knew how to affectively COMMUNICATE the complex, and one who complemented their traditional public, private, remote, home, or traveling schools.
I knew there was a GREAT need for flexible, CARING, PATIENT, PERSONALIZED and IMPACTFUL one-to-one online tutoring - to address the urgent emotional, academic, and real-life needs of young minds from elementary school to college - and into the working world.
Direct instruction was/is crucial as many students' learning styles, angst and/or antipathy usurped their ability to fully learn in a classroom of 10 to 12 peers - even with two (2) magnificent teachers.”

All students taking one-to-one classes must attend a ninety (90) minute Introductory-Tutorial Trial Class.
Even seasoned scholars accustomed to learning virtually will greatly benefit from our trial class which helps to determine if you (the parent or adult student), and/or your child are comfortable with our one-to-one instructional methods.
We also want to ensure that our 1SKY SCHOLARS teaching style aligns with your goals, family values - and lifestyle.
In addition to coaching and instruction, our trial class includes assessments.

INSTRUCTIONAL FRAMEWORK
The focus of all of our English fluency, speaking, reading and writing assignments, is to increase literacy, fluency, and to decode multisyllabic words to denote meaning.
We also make connections between intentional thought, inferencing, subtext, and what is spoken and read.
Our scholars are able to connect their background knowledge, acquire higher level vocabulary and think deeply and critically about what is spoken and written.
Our fluid multi-sensory, higher order instruction includes: learning through reasoning (GBL) Game Based learning for elementary students), Socratic inquiry, visual and context cues and story-telling.
All lessons are designed to introduce analytical rigor that enhances literacy, oral language proficiency, interactive engagement, and listening for effective communication, comprehension, critical analysis and higher order thinking (Bloom’s Taxonomy).

Our 1Sky Scholar comes from a highly accomplished family. Born and raised in China, our 1Sky Scholar emigrated to the USA as a married adult.
Having built a thriving business, scholar was determined to finally tackle a worrisome challenge - learning to speak English well.
While born in comfort, she was not averse to putting in the hard work and the necessary time to improve her English fluency.

Our Scholar’s confidence, pronunciation, and self-correcting abilities all have risen from Novice English level to Intermediate Advanced (ACTFL Standards).

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Lisa Fátimah is a Certified Educator for Dyslexic and Neurodivergent learners. For 20+ years, she has taught students in grassroots independent, public/ government, exclusive private, and progressive home school settings.
A Native New Yorker, Lisa comes from a family of educators, and she is resolute about teaching students the way they learn, building self-esteem, and creating holistic curated learning plans that work! After leaving broadcasting, the corporate legal arena, and serving as John Marshall Law School’s Director of Admissions, in 2010, Lisa Fátimah founded Milán International School Scholars (MISS), an educational outreach program serving learners with limited English and mobility.
In 2015, Lisa Fátimah established 1 SKY SCHOLARS Global Tutoring. She passionately teaches online English classes to Neurodivergent, Dyslexic, ADHD, ESOL, Gifted, and traditional learners in the USA and worldwide. Lisa brings a wealth of substance to schools, busy families, and institutions with global brilliance.
Lisa is a student of linguistics and the human experience. She understands diverse cultural nuances, social meanings - and the contours of class within communiqué. An alumna of Spelman College, Lisa Fátimah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language and International Business from Georgia State University (USA), and pre and post-graduate certificates from La Universidad Autónoma de Benito Juarez (Oaxaca, México), and Learning & The Brain, Focused Organized Minds, Insights into Neuroimaging, Harvard Graduate School of Education (USA).
